DR. MARK NELSON, M.D. PHD
Dermatologist
Dr. Mark Nelson is a board certified dermatologist who has been practicing for over thirty years and has recently joined Beacon Skin and Surgeries. His education includes multiple degrees from Wayne State University: Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. Much of his work on the Doctorate was done in Spain as a Fulbright scholar. Upon returning from Madrid, he worked in the cytogenetics lab at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit helping to decipher abnormalities in human chromosomes. Dr. Nelson then attended the George Washington University Medical School and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree followed by an internship in internal medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
He completed a residency in dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital while receiving the Dermatology Research Award for his work in developing monoclonal antibodies for the early detection of cutaneous lymphomas. Dr. Nelson’s professional affiliations include Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and member and past president of the Michigan Dermatological Society. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society, Oakland County Medical Society and a staff member at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. He enjoys spending his spare time with his two grown children, grandson and extended family.
